ACPFA in association with Peking University of China jointly organized “China’s Functionality and Sino-African Relations” lectured by Ambassador Liu Guijin, the First Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on African Affairs. Ambassador Liu is also one of the 19 founding members of the ACPFA.

August 17, 2013

The AGM of ACPFA was held in Cape Town. Dr Pallo Jordan was elected President, Dabing Chen, Executive Deputy President. Dr Phillip Dexter, Ronnie Kasrils, Jacqueline Mbabazi, Tim Butcher were elected deputy presidents. Rev Wesley Douglas elected the Secretary General, Charles Alexander the deputy Secretary General.

The Honorable Consul General Mr Liang Shugen of PR China in Cape Town (center front) invited ACPFA management team for diner at his official residence during which the purpose, projects, programs and progress of the ACPFA was reported and discussed.

The Deputy President of African National Congress Mr Cyril Ramaphosa met Dabing Chen in his capacity as Executive Chairman of ACPFA and Dr Phillip Dexter, the Chief Executive Officer. During the historical meeting the advice and support of the Deputy President to ACPFA was discussed.

The Executive Chairman Mr Dabing Chen in association with South Africa Soong Ching Ling Foundation donated fund to build a “China House” Orphanage in Cape Town.

The Executive Chairman Mr Dabing Chen and the founding member Dr Phillip Dexter are accredited to take part in the BRICS Summit in Durban 2013.

His Excellency Ambassador Tian Xuejun of the People’s Republic of China in South Africa invited Dabing Chen to dinner at his official residence in Pretoria in recognition of Dabing’s contribution to building and promoting the people to people relations between the two countries. Dabing briefed Ambassador Tian in detail the vision, mission, programs, projects and the progress of ACPFA while the Ambassador pledged his full support and that of the Embassy’s to fulfill ACPFA’s aspirations.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Mbombo Njoya of the Republic of Cameroon receives Dabing Chen at his royal palace in Foumban and agrees to explore cultural exchange opportunities with ACPFA.

The registration documents were signed by most of the founding members of ACPFA that includes Ronnie Kasrils, Pallo Jordan, Liu Guijin, Dabing Chen, Chen Qing, Phillip Dexter, Amina Frense, Wang Lin, Yumei Shi, Hao Guangfeng, Natalie Becker, Beezy Bailey, Herman Steyn, Guo Qiang, Kamugasha Mbabazi, Jiang Wenli, Zhang Guoli, Su Ming and Mark Abbott.

The name was reserved with South African Registrar and all other intellectual property rights in relation with ACPFA were dealt with by the professionals. The article of association was drafted and rendered for consultation.

Meeting with His Excellency Dr Bheki Langa, the South African Ambassador to PR China during which the preparation and progress of ACPFA was reported and discussed.

A piece of Chinese Calligraphy was presented to the President of the Republic of South Africa at Mahlamba Ndlopfu, the official presidential residence. The English Translation: A stony path meanders up to the chilly hills. Where the clouds arise is where the people lives. My carriage stops at twilight in the maple woods. The red frosty leaves outshine the early spring flowers.

The idea was verbally presented by Dabing Chen to Ambassador Liu Guijin at a dinner reception at Villa Chenshia in honor of his visit to the Republic as the First Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs. The former South African Minister of Intelligence Ronnie Kasrils seconded the idea during the discussion.

Dabing Chen discussed the concept of ACPFA with visiting Vice Minister Mme Zhao Shaohua of PRC Ministry of Culture while briefing her the privately funded cultural exchange programs he has been conducting and promoting between South Africa and China since 2004.

On the long distance drive from Johannesburg to Grahamstown after a successful cultural exchange session organized for a group of South African artists with their visiting Chinese counterparts at the 99 year old Everard Read Gallery the idea of a nonprofit organization to develop people to people relations emerged and the name of the African-Chinese People’s Friendship Association (ACPFA) was first discussed with the visiting artists.

April 2, 2006

The press release of the first private cultural exchange programs sponsored by Dabing Chen that materialized after a two year preparation. Vusi Khumalo , the first black artist was sent to China under the program. Present were Dagmar Schumacher, the Spiegel journalist, Shi Weiqiang, the former Chinese Consul General in Cape Town and David Tripp, the director of Everard Read Cape Town.
